Surgery clinics

The midwives run this clinic. If you become pregnant, you will be given a ‘booking appointment’ at which the midwife will ask you a few questions and carry out some general health checks. You will be seen regularly throughout your pregnancy either at the practice, the local hospital, or both.

All new babies are invited for regular check ups from eight weeks old.

Minor operations can be done in our treatment room. Please discuss this with your doctor who will then arrange for you to be given an appointment.

This clinic offers advice and general health check ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes. By appointment only.

Asthma sufferers need to make an appointment to attend the clinic. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your asthma symptoms, please complete an asthma review form.

Our healthcare assistant is trained to give advice and support to patients trying to give up smoking. Leaflets are available from reception.

We offer regular smoking cessation appointments. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a smoking review on a regular basis, please complete a smoking review form. Alternatively, please see reception for details.

Patients requiring a blood test will now have to book an appointment with their clinic by calling 0161 934 8361 where you will be offered an appointment at any of the following sites and times:

• Altrincham General, 8am to 3:30pm
• Trafford General Hospital, 7:30am to 4pm
• Woodsend Clinic, 8:30am to 9:30am, fasting bloods only. 9:30am to 1:30pm, all other blood tests

Tuesday

• Altrincham Hospital, 8am to 3:30pm
• Trafford General Hospital, 7:30am to 4pm
• Delamere Centre, 8:30am to 9:30am, fasting bloods only. 9:30am to 1:30pm, all other blood tests

Wednesday

• Altrincham Hospital, 11am to 3:30pm
• Trafford General Hospital, 7:30am to 4pm
• Partington Health Centre, 8:30am to 11:30am

Thursday

• Altrincham Hospital, 8am to 3:30pm
• Trafford General Hospital, 7:30am to 4pm
• Timperley Health Centre, 8:30am to 1:45pm

Friday

• Altrincham Hospital, 8am to 3:30pm
• Trafford General Hospital, 7:30am to 4pm
• Chapel Road Clinic, 8:30am to 9:30am, fasting bloods only. 9:30am to 2pm, all other blood tests

If you require a fasting blood test, please do not eat or drink from 10pm the night before. You are able to drink water and take your medication unless otherwise instructed.

Patients requiring ‘bloods’ may book an appointment at any of the above locations. They must take their blood forms with them.

Please ring the surgery between 11am and midday for your results allowing at least three working days for your tests to be processed. We do not normally ring patients with test results.

Please note that all children under the age of 16 are not able to attend any of the above clinics to have a blood test. Please contact The Children’s Resource Centre at Trafford General Hospital on 0161 746 2149 to book an appointment.

You can now get walk-in assessment and treatment for red, sore or itchy eyes through your local optometrist.

What is primary eyecare?

The service is provided by accredited optometrists (also known as opticians) with the specialist knowledge and skills to carry out this work at a local optometry practice.

Eye conditions which can be treated in the primary eyecare service.

The service is designed for recently occurring medical eye conditions such as:

• Red eye or eyelids
• Dry, gritty or uncomfortable eyes
• Eye irritation and inflammation
• A lot of recent discharge from the eye or watery eye
• Recently occurring flashes or floaters
• Painful eye
• Ingrowing lashes
• Recent and sudden loss of vision
• Foreign body in the eye

If you are unsure whether your symptoms qualify, please contact one of the optometry practices who can advise you.

How do I access the red eye service?

Please be aware that your normal optometry practice may have chosen not to offer this service.

You can contact any of these practices directly (self refer) to make an appointment

Appointments are available during normal working hours. Alternatively, your GP or other healthcare professional may refer you to the optometrist for treatment.

What happens when I see the optometrist?

The optometrist will discuss your eye history, any symptoms you may be experiencing and any related medical history.

You will receive an eye assessment relevant to your symptoms. This does not replace the routine sight test.

Please take your glasses and a list of current medications with you to the appointment.

As a result of the consultation you may be:

• Given appropriate treatment by the optometrist, this may include a follow up appointment.
• Referred to your GP for appropriate treatment if your eye condition is related to your general health.
• Referred directly to the hospital eye service, if your eye condition is more serious.
• Following your appointment the optometrist will notify your GP about the outcome of your consultation in order to ensure your medical records are updated.

This service does not replace the routine eye examination.

A sight test will not be performed as part of the assessment or treatment and you will not be issued with a prescription for glasses.

You may not be able to drive immediately after your eye examination.

Eye conditions not treated under the primary eyecare service

If you have any of the following conditions you must go directly to your nearest accident and emergency department or Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Oxford Road Manchester M13 9WL:

• Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
• Considerable eye pain
• Significant trauma, such as penetration injury or lacerations to the eye(s) or lid(s)
• Chemical injury or burns
• Problems arising from recent eye surgery
